PHLEBOTOMY & PRP · CAREER GUIDE

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is popular for skin and hair. But every PRP treatment starts with one thing: taking blood from your client. That is phlebotomy. If you want to offer PRP safely, phlebotomy training comes first.

01 / THE BASICS

What is phlebotomy?

Phlebotomy simply means taking blood from a vein. In an aesthetics clinic, you take a small sample, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, and then use the plasma in the treatment.

It sounds simple, but there is a lot to get right. You need to choose the right vein, use clean technique, label and handle the sample safely, and know what to do if a client feels faint or bruises.

02 / THE RULES

Do you need a qualification?

There is no single UK law that names one phlebotomy qualification for aesthetics. That does not mean you can skip training. In practice:

  • Insurers will usually ask for proof of phlebotomy training before they cover you for PRP.

  • Product suppliers may ask for evidence of training before they sell you PRP kits.

  • Clients are trusting you with a needle in their vein. Proper training protects them, and you.
