The Weekly Journal from You. The Standard Academy

Building Careers Through Knowledge, Not Shortcuts

Every week we speak to practitioners who are eager to move into advanced aesthetics. Many have completed short courses, collected certificates and spent thousands on training, yet still find themselves asking the same question:

"What qualification do I actually need next?"

The answer is rarely the quickest route.

At You. Academy, we believe careers are built through structured education. Every qualification has a purpose. Every level prepares you for the next. Every learner develops the knowledge, judgement and competence needed to practise safely—not just perform a treatment.

This week, we've celebrated another successful examination day, tackled some of the biggest misconceptions in aesthetics education and explained why the strongest practitioners are built on solid foundations rather than shortcuts.

Inside You. The Standard Academy

Congratulations to Our Latest Cohort to Complete their Exams

This week marked another proud milestone as our latest cohort completed their regulated examinations.

Exam day is often seen as the finish line, but in reality it is simply proof of everything our learners have achieved over the previous months. Behind every assessment is a portfolio of evidence, countless hours of study, tutor feedback, practical training and genuine commitment.

Unlike one-day courses where attendance is often enough to receive a certificate, regulated qualifications require learners to demonstrate competence against nationally recognised standards. They must show not only that they understand the theory but that they can apply it safely in practice.

Watching learners arrive nervous and leave with smiles, knowing they have genuinely earned their qualification, is exactly why we do what we do.

To every student who sat their examinations this week—congratulate yourself. You've achieved something that cannot be bought or rushed.

Career Pathway Spotlight

VTCT Level 5 Award in Non-Cosmetic Aesthetic Treatments for Skin Rejuvenation

If your ambition is to progress into advanced aesthetics, your Level 5 qualification is one of the most important investments you'll make.

Our VTCT Level 5 Award in Non-Cosmetic Aesthetic Treatments for Skin Rejuvenation has been designed to bridge the gap between Level 4 skin treatments and advanced injectable practice. It develops the clinical knowledge, critical thinking and practical competence required to deliver advanced skin rejuvenation treatments safely and professionally.

Throughout the qualification, learners study advanced consultation techniques, skin assessment, treatment planning, skin rejuvenation science, health and safety, infection prevention and the management of complications. Practical training includes advanced non-cosmetic aesthetic treatments designed to improve skin quality while developing the confidence expected of a Level 5 practitioner.

This qualification isn't simply about learning new treatments. It's about learning to assess each client as an individual, justify every treatment recommendation and understand the science behind the results you achieve.

For many learners, this is also the natural progression before moving on to VTCT Level 7. It provides the knowledge and experience needed to confidently take the next step into advanced injectable qualifications while ensuring your education has been built on strong, regulated foundations.

If your goal is to future-proof your career, Level 5 isn't just another qualification—it's one of the most valuable steps you'll take.

Question of the Week

Can I Go Straight From Level 3 to Level 5?

This remains one of the questions we answer most frequently.

The simple answer is no.

Level 5 is an advanced qualification designed to build upon existing skin knowledge.

Whilst a Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology qualification provides valuable understanding of the body's systems, it does not develop the clinical knowledge of skin analysis, consultation, treatment planning or skin pathology required before progressing into advanced skin rejuvenation.

That's why our recommended pathway begins with CIBTAC Level 3 Principles of Cosmetic Practice, followed by Level 4 skin qualifications before progressing to VTCT Level 5.

Every qualification has a purpose.

Skipping foundations simply creates gaps that become harder to fill later.

Why We've Introduced OFQUAL Regulated First Aid

Patient safety starts long before any treatment begins.

That's why we're excited to announce that You. Academy will now be offering OFQUAL Regulated Emergency First Aid at Work qualifications.

Unlike many non-regulated certificates that vary in quality and often require annual renewal, regulated first aid qualifications remain valid for three years and are delivered against nationally recognised standards.

Even more importantly, this qualification is now a prerequisite before beginning our Level 5 pathway.

Because safe practitioners don't just know how to perform treatments.

They know how to respond if something unexpected happens.
